Father Dr. Carlos Castillo M. Appointed New Archbishop of Lima

Since the 1990s, Father Carlos Castillo Mattasoglio has been an active member of the KAAD partner committee in Lima, Peru, as church representative.
Teaching experience at the Pontifícia Universidad Católica del Peru (PUCP) and numerous publications prove him to be a recognized theologian who has always been active in pastoral ministry. His close networking within the Peruvian church facilitates him to evaluate reference letters from the local bishop or cleric so important for KAAD applications which students and young scientifics present to him. Together with the support of Father Castillo, KAAD has enabled more than 45 Peruvian scholarship holders to study in Germany over the past 10 years. In addition to that, he has also been an active part in setting up a scholarship programme at PUCP (sur-place programme) since 2015.

Pope Francis now appointed Father Castillo Archbishop of Lima. KAAD scholarship holders and staff were very pleased and moved about this news. They express their gratitude to the committed archbishop for these decades of commitment and wish him much strength, success and God’s blessings for the tasks and challenges ahead.
