You can find international restaurants in every town in Germany, no matter how small – and there is often an Asian restaurant among them. There is a desire for something different in the culinary world – the exoticism of international cuisine is what makes it so appealing. For the majority society, this means indulging in memories of the last holiday for dinner or reaching a place of longing that is otherwise far away.

This longing is shared by many migrants. For them, this cuisine means a piece of home in a foreign country, warmth and connection, a break from culture shock. No wonder that the first international restaurants were mostly established in the world's trading centres.
This seminar aims to examine the complexity of the meaning of international cuisine using the example of Asian cuisine as a place of longing and to integrate it into the historical context. From the Silk Road to the processes of today's globalisation, we will trace the development of Asian cuisine in an international and German context.

We will add a practical component to the theoretical discussion by cooking together.

The seminar is held on a self-catering basis. Each participant should take part in preparing the food for the group. Participation in preparatory Zoom meetings is therefore mandatory. To ensure that the self-catering seminar runs smoothly, early and binding registration is required.
