The colonial era dates back sixty years in most African countries but has powerful repercussions to date not only on infrastructure and economic structures but also in people's minds.

On 27 and 28 November, fifty current and former KAAD scholarship holders discussed the issues of return to and reintegration in their home country after their period of study in Germany.

In 2023, KAAD awards the Hermann Weber Scholarship donated by alumnus Helmuth Gallego to Willis Awandu from Kenya, who is doing his doctorate in the field of water technology at the University of Darmstadt.

In cooperation with our KAAD alumni in Indonesia and the KMKI alumni organisation KONTAK, a seminar was organised in Bogor, Indonesia, from 20 to 22 October 2023. The seminar focused on the plans for the new capital of Indonesia, Ibu Kota Nusantara.

From 9 to 12 October, 25 KAAD scholarship holders met at the Alte Feuerwache Berlin to discuss "Current Challenges for Ethnic Minorities in Asia". Most of the participants came from Asia. However, the group was also enriched by scholarship holders from Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
