Auxiliary Bishop Losinger studied Catholic theology and philosophy as well as economics at the University of Augsburg and was ordained priest in 1983. In 1988 he was awarded a doctorate in theology and five years later a doctorate in political science. In 2000, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Augsburg by Pope John Paul II. Auxiliary Bishop Losinger has been a member of Commission VIII for Science and Culture of the German Bishops' Conference since 2015 and has been engaged in the Senate of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science for more than ten years.
