Focus Countries of the KAAD in Asia
The KAAD is linked to Asia in its diversity and its strong
social, economic and political change, KAAD has been cooperating with Asia for decades.
KAAD focuses its scholarship work in focus countries where the work of scholarship holders as "change agents" is particularly important or particularly promising through networking with other "change agents" and alumni. To assess whether an application is promising and/or particularly important, we cooperate with our partner committees in the respective focus countries.
The KAAD partner committees in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam have become permanent fixtures over decades, and more recent partner committees have emerged in Bangladesh and Myanmar. They are important partners for us in the evaluation of initial applications from their countries. The selection of scholarship holders is thus based on an important local component here as well. We thus follow a postcolonial understanding of development cooperation. Our partner committees in the focus countries make an essential contribution to the evaluation and selection of future scholarship holders.
Our current focus countries in Asia are Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, PR China, and Vietnam.
