Expert Group Water

In 2021, the project "CLIENT I Vietnam - KaWaTech Solutions: Technical Solutions for Karst Water Supply", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, to secure groundwater supplies in a karst region of northern Vietnam was completed. The ViWat programme "CLIENT II Vietnam - Collaborative Project ViWaT Mekong: Integrated Solutions for Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta - Land, Water, Energy, and Climate - Sub-Collaboration ViWaT Engineering" faced massive challenges, as work in the country was only feasible in a reduced form due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, KAAD was able to address the situation of its Vietnamese scholarship holders through individually necessary project extensions and to initiate plans for the continuation of the project in a new application. The water management issues in the Mekong Delta that the project is pursuing also aroused great interest among the other scholarship holders. Many scholarship holders are connected through the subject area of "renewable energies". The KAAD Asia Seminar, therefore, devoted two dates to this topic (cf. Chapter 4): In February, the Vietnamese KAAD scholarship holders associated with the ViWat project, led by Prof. Dr. Franz Nestmann and Dr. Duong Vu (both Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT), gained a comprehensive insight into the overall project in a two-day seminar. In November, the participants learned about German forms of cooperation between politics and industry in water management. Many scholarship holders will remain connected to the topic of renewable energies in the work of the KAAD Water Expert Group.
