KAAD Foundation Peter Hünermann

The Foundation

In December 2008, the KAAD established the “KAAD Peter Hünermann Foundation” under the auspices of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. It is named after its first benefactor, the long-time president (1985–2002) and honorary president of the KAAD, Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Peter Hünermann, who passed away in December 2025.

The foundation is intended to support the association’s educational and alumni work—particularly professional networking—and focuses primarily on initiatives launched by alumnae, alumni, and scholarship recipients.

The foundation’s work is overseen by its board of directors, which deliberates on the allocation of funds and the support of individual projects.

The Foundation Award

Since 2011, the KAAD Foundation has presented an annual award in collaboration with partner organizations and alumni associations. It is awarded to KAAD alumni who have returned to their home countries and have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievements of social relevance and/or through (volunteer) civic or church-related engagement.
