Narine Ghazaryan

Biophysicist Narine Ghazaryan specialises in membrane biophysics, toxicology, biochemistry and cancer biology. After completing her Master's degree at Yerevan State University in 2008, she initially worked in a blood and diagnostic centre and at the Armenian National Academy of Sciences Yerevan (NAS RA). She completed her scientific training in 2013 with a PhD at the L.A. Orbeli Institute of Physiology at NAS RA.

In 2017 and 2021, Narine Ghazaryan was awarded a KAAD scholarship for research stays at the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen. These research stays were followed by further research activities at the University of Porto (Portugal), the Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine (Japan) and at Harvard Medical School (USA). To date, she has published fifty articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Today, Narine Ghazaryan is Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics and Deputy Director of the Hematology Centre After Prof. R. Yeolan in Yerevan, Armenia. A method was developed here that has revolutionised the diagnosis of acute leukaemia. Narine Ghazaryan is one of the leading cancer researchers in Armenia. As a cancer researcher, she is making a remarkable contribution to the further development of the healthcare system in Armenia, which is precisely the kind of social relevance that characterises KAAD alumni.
