Trinnah Marie Caracho

Trinnah Marie Caracho is a social scientist specialising in the fields of communication, public policy and development. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Development Communication in 2013, she completed a Master's degree in Public Policy at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt with the help of KAAD. During the German language course in Bonn, which is compulsory for KAAD scholarship holders, she made friends with KAAD scholarship holders from Africa. She discovered that although there are differences, there are also similarities in the development problems in Asia and Africa. Inspired by these conversations, she completed her internship in Kenya with a local NGO that is involved in the care of children and young people, among other things.

She returned to the Philippines in 2020. There, she initially taught prospective development communication specialists as a lecturer at Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan . She developed ideas to improve communication between the population and local administrations and organisations. In doing so, she focussed on an emphatic approach that seeks to understand development problems from the perspective of local communities.

Since 2023, Trinnah Caracho has been the Volunteer Programme Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity International. Her expertise in development and communication, as well as the experience she gained during her internship in Kenya, make her an asset to development in poverty- and conflict-stricken Mindanao in the southern Philippines. She also works as a consultant for grassroots organisations and capacity development in Mindanao.

Her studies in Germany and her time with the other KAAD scholarship holders have changed her view of international development cooperation, she says. As part of the KAAD partner committee in the Philippines, she plays an important role for current and future KAAD scholarship holders in acquisition, networking and reintegration.
