Who gets access to good education in Latin America – and who is left out? This was the key question at the Latin America seminar, which took place at the Franz Hitze-Haus in Münster from December 8 to 11, 2025.

Dr Mirjam Rossa, Head of the Latin America Department at KAAD, intensified the exchange with universities and alumni in Argentina and Uruguay in a spirit of shared responsibility.

KAAD congratulates Fr Dr Carlos Ignacio Man Ching SJ on his appointment as Rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. His professional career combines academic work, pastoral responsibility and international networking - and illustrates in a special way the impact of our alumni in their home countries.

Taking particular account of the pastoral-social and academic needs of the local church and the changing university system, the question was discussed as to what contribution the KAAD's involvement can make in this area of tension in Latin America.

Synodal processes in the Catholic Church: Latin America and Germany in comparison

In cooperation with our alumni group ‘Salud Global’ (‘Global Health’), the successes of the interdisciplinary research project ‘Neurorehab’ by our alumna Prof Dr Fabiana Faleiros at the University of São Paulo were presented.

With the support of KAAD and the Episcopal Action Adveniat, the second group of students of the Master's programme in Social Pedagogy at the University Rafael Landívar in Guatemala has successfully completed its studies.

The focus of the trip of our Head of the Latin America Department, Dr Thomas Krüggeler, was his attendance at an event on the challenges of socio-educational work in Guatemala and Central America.
