The priority countries for funding are Egypt, Israel/Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Postgraduate academics can apply for funding for (1) a Master's degree and (2) a doctorate at a German university. Funding for specialist training in Germany is not possible. Since 2015, the KAAD has also been awarding sur-place scholarships for Master's degree courses at universities in Lebanon and Jordan as part of the S1 program. The KAAD also offers third-country scholarships for refugees and local sector experts to help overcome the challenges posed by the regional refugee crisis.
