KAAD Focus Countries in Africa
Our program for sub-Saharan Africa sets both development and research-oriented funding priorities. Young scientists who have already taken on responsibility in church and society should be enabled to do this further and with even greater qualifications.
The scholarships benefit talented students from needy families. The aim is to promote so-called "agents of change" who, thanks to their academic qualifications, can take on responsibility in society, the academic/scientific arena and the church.
The focus countries of KAAD in Africa are: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe. Additionally, Uganda and Tanzania are also part of the focus region East Africa. There are four ‘partner committees’ that are also responsible for the states bordering the focus countries.
In the focus countries of Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, there is also the possibility of a scholarship for In-Country Master's courses within the S1 program (Sur Place scholarships). The In-Country-scholars and those returning from Germany are members of the same alumni associations supported by KAAD.
