In July, I had the opportunity to take part in the KAAD seminar 'How do I find my way in a world full of crises? Spiritual orientation in times of uncertainty'. This seminar took place in the beautiful Benedictine monastery in Beuron, Swabia. It was an enriching experience, both personally and spiritually, that allowed me to reflect on my life path and impact on the world.
Before I go into the details of our experience, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Father Professor Dr Thomas Eggensperger OP and Fr Professor Dr Ulrich Engel OP for their spiritual guidance and preparation of the seminar. Their guidance and support were fundamental to the success of this transformative experience.
During our stay at the monastery, we had the opportunity to get to know the daily life of the Benedictine monks. Thanks to a pleasant conversation with a brother of the monastery, Fr Albert Schmitt OSB, we learnt more about the history of the order, the daily tasks of the community, and their vocation to serve their neighbour. This conversation gave us not only valuable historical insights but also a deeper understanding of the monks' dedication and commitment to their community and to God.
The seminar alternated between meditation sessions and activities for personal and spiritual reflection. These invited us to explore our past and present so that we could better shape our future. It was an introspective process that allowed us to get in touch with our inner being and better understand our purpose in life.
We had the opportunity to take part in the liturgical celebrations organised by the monks and to visit the imposing church of Beuron Archabbey. Inside, we discovered the beautiful Chapel of Grace, designed in the Beuronese artistic style. This sublime sacred space, with its interesting baroque features, was a perfect place for contemplation and prayer.
One of the outstanding moments of the seminar was our hike through the Upper Danube Nature Park. This hike ended with a visit to the Maurus Chapel, where we celebrated the Eucharist together. The natural beauty of the landscape and the aura of the chapel made this day an unforgettable experience, full of peace and reflection.
The experience at the seminary left us with many enriching experiences and, above all, filled our minds with new energy to continue our academic journey. We felt inspired and motivated to give back the blessings we received to those around us in the near future. This seminar not only provided us with tools to deal with life's crises and uncertainties but also showed us the importance of spiritual direction for our personal and professional development.
