KAAD in Africa
KAAD connects with these focus countries through a strong network of alumni, church actors (especially Catholic university chaplaincies and dioceses) and social actors (especially through connections via KAAD alumni to NGOs, politics or companies). Due to increased use of digital networking, a pan-African component has also become more visible, for example at thematic meetings that are equally interesting and urgent for all parts of the continent.
Within this thematic work, some of the main areas covered are education (organisation, access and content) and leadership (political, economic, academic). Ecological issues and the future of health care in African countries are also high on the agenda. Within the framework of the global synodal process initiated by the Vatican, internal church issues are also coming into focus, above all the question of including lay people in the work of the Catholic Church and their role and influence. Particularly in northern Ghana, Ethiopia and on the coast of East Africa, the question of interreligious dialogue and the coexistence of Christians and Muslims emerges time and again and becomes the theme of seminars of KAAD alumni. It is becoming increasingly clear that internal church and interreligious questions are no longer just local affairs: In this respect, Africa is increasingly moving from the periphery to the focus of the universal church and the religious geopolitical situation.
